Beyond Madonna

I am passionate about spreading awareness about the injustices relating to social and gender inequalities. I use fashion photography to express my interpretation of the world around me. My most recent project, Beyond Madonna, pulls inspiration from the traditional oil paintings of the Madonna and Child. By focusing specifically on the relationship between parent and child, I explore this relationship in many different ways. In each photograph I employ models who represent diverse ethnic backgrounds and levels of ability. Using dramatic lighting and intentional posing, I keep traditional style of costume and color.

Focusing on this connection gives me the ability to state the importance of diversity and the influence parents have in shaping their child’s interpretations of the world. With this project I use these impressions to express my hope towards acceptance for what makes us unique from one another, and how important that equality is.
