Beyond Madonna
October 2018 - September 2019
I am passionate about spreading awareness about the injustices relating to social and gender inequalities. I use fashion photography to express my interpretation of the world around me. Beyond Madonna pulls inspiration from the traditional oil paintings of the Madonna and Child. By focusing specifically on the relationship between parent and child, I explore this relationship in various different ways. In each photograph I employ models who represent different ethnic backgrounds, physical abilities, sexual orientations, and ages. Using dramatic lighting and intentional posing, I utilize traditional style of costume and color.
Focusing on the connection between parent and child gives me the ability to state the importance of diversity and that this bond is equally strong across different backgrounds. With this project I use these impressions to express my desire of acceptance for what makes us unique from one another, and the great importance of equality for all.
